St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel will be holding a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, April 12 at 1:30 p.m. for a new a building to be constructed on the parish grounds. A noon lunch will be provided by Knights of Columbus.
The $2.2 million building, located at 24043 302nd Place, will house religious education classrooms, meeting rooms, and a large gathering space/parish hall. So far, a fundraising campaign has raised over $1.1 million to help fund the new building.
Edge Commercial is the general contractor for the project with Scott Snyder as the architect with Simonson & Associates.
Construction is anticipated to start this month with a completion date this fall.
The Most Reverend Richard Pates, Bishop of the Des Moines Diocese will be the special guest and will be joined by Reverend Wayne Gubbels, pastor at St. John’s. Parish members will also participate in the ceremony.
St. John’s was established in 1917 and has been sitting on its present site since 1969. The church serves several communities including Adel, Dallas Center, De Soto, Minburn, Redfield, and Van Meter.
