Residents of Dallas County could be able to enjoy the 5-acre, 283,000 gallon Aquatic Center as early as July 4.

City Administrator Brett Klein said construction crews are working overtime to reach a completion date of July 4.

“Our plans are to be open on July 4,” he said. “The project is evolving each day, but there are still some things that need to be finished, but we are pushing for the 4th. Patrons should check the City’s website (www.adeliowa.org) on July 3.”

Wet weather pushed back the opening date by almost a month, but Klein says the new facility will be worth it.

“For 75 plus years, residents have never had a heated facility,” he said. “I think they will really enjoy that.”

The facility will have two waterslides, a lap pool, a shallow end for kids, a “leap-frog” area, a splash pad and plenty of shade tents.

The facility will also feature a consession stand which will sell items such as hot dogs, nachos, alligator ice (sno-cones), smoothies, soft drinks as well as healthy items like fruit and nutrition bars.

Although it is a holiday weekend, Klein anticipates a large turnout of county residents.

“I think it could reach capacity (603 patrons) on opening day, but you never know since it’s the 4th of July,” he said. “But it could very well reach capacity at some point over the holiday weekend.”

Due to a higher capacity, the center will have 8-10 lifeguards on staff at a time including a manager on duty.

The Adel Aquatic Center will open at 12:30 p.m., will have a lap swim from 5-6 p.m.

It is located at South 15th Street in the southwest corner of Adel (by the Adel watertower).
