Safety City, an educational program for Pre-Kindergarten children, is still taking registrations until May 9.
There are openings for five classes being held both in the morning and afternoon during the weeks of June 9-13, June 16-20, and June 23-27.
The program teaches children about safety aspects in bullying, being a pedestrian, poison and drugs, 9-1-1, seatbelts, fire safety, gun safety and many other subjects. Students will also get to meet a Kindergarten teacher and take a field trip on a school bus to the Waukee Fire and Waukee Police Departments. The classes will be held at Waukee Middle School at 905 Warrior Lane in Waukee. A City is built in the gymnasium, and kids learn to ride tricycles and walk through the City safely.
Those parents interested in filling out a registration form can go to the City of Waukee’s website and download the document, or they can contact the Waukee Police Department at 987-1073. Due to classes being almost full, parents must select three different classes with priorities listed by number (1-2-3). Cost is $50 per child. Only cash or checks are accepted as payment.
