The City of Adel has announced that it has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in an amount not to exceed $500,000.00 from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The City and IEDA will enter into a contract with an ending date of July 31, 2016.
The grant funding will be used to revitalize the City’s historic downtown courthouse square district and involves a comprehensive façade improvement project. The project includes a City and private building owner match which will bring the total funds to nearly $1million. Twenty buildings in the project area have provided commitment letters to participate in the grant project.
“The overall project and grant will provide an exceptional opportunity to revitalize Adel’s historic downtown,” Adel Partners Chamber Director Karina Ward stated. “When the project is complete there will be a fresh look to Adel’s downtown while restoring many historical attributes of the buildings.”
Please watch for updates on the progress of the project through the City’s website and newsletter. The first 6 months deal mostly with administrative and design activities. During the spring and summer of 2014, there should be some exciting transformative construction work being completed.
