A 14-year-old Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Middle School student from Adel is facing charges in connection with an incident at the school on Thursday, Oct. 17.
Adel Police have charged the male juvenile with theft 2nd degree and criminal mischief 2nd degree. The charges were filed through juvenile court. The incident occurred in the boys’ locker room at the middle school.
According to Adel Police Detective Gordy Shepherd, the junior high football team had an away game that day and had dressed for the game in the A-D-M locker room before boarding a bus to the game.
“A school employee saw the locker room in disarray and phoned in a report,” Shepherd said. “We quickly determined a suspect and charges were filed after an investigation.”
Shepherd said that lockers were left unlocked and the alleged perpetrator rummaged through them and removed cell phones, cash, clothing, and other items.
“Most of the cell phones were damaged or destroyed on site, but one was found on the suspect,” Shepherd said.
