A-D-M warns businesses of donation scam

Local businesses are being warned of a scam using Adel-DeSoto-Minburn athletic teams as bait.

A-D-M Activities Director Doug Gee said that one, or perhaps two, companies are currently phoning Adel businesses and asking them to sponsor the A-D-M Activities Department by purchasing T-shirts and other merchandise they are portraying as “spirit wear.” According to Gee, the pitch is that those businesses’ names will be put on the equipment.

“Those people did not get the school’s permission to do this and we are not asking them to call on local businesses,” Gee said.

Gee said that if a business is called and asked to sponsor either the school or the Booster Club, the business should contact the Activities Department at 993-4819.

“The A-D-M Athletic Department does only two fund-raisers a year and they are done through the A-D-M Booster Club,” Gee said. “One fund-raiser is the Tiger Card, sold by the school’s football team, and the other is a membership drive, which was done Aug. 20.
