Dallas County GOP to host 2nd Annual Family-Friendly Summer Potluck

Dallas County Republicans are pleased to announce the official date for their Family-Friendly Summer Potluck at Dallas Center’s Mound Park on Thursday, June 26th starting at 6:30 pm. Mound Park is located just west of downtown Dallas Center. There’s no gate charge for the event, but free will donations will be accepted. Dinner will include pork tenderloins, pasta, salads, and of course, dessert. Candidates, state office holders, and local Dallas County officials will be in attendance. This will be a fantastic opportunity for Dallas County Republicans to meet and greet State Auditor Mary Mosiman, State Attorney General candidate Adam Gregg, as well as others.

“This family-friendly potluck will allow local Republicans, public officials, campaign activists, and concerned citizens an occasion to gather with their family and friends to enjoy good food, great Iowa summer weather, and meet our 2014 GOP candidates,” stated Dallas County Chair Christi Taylor. Dallas County Co-Chair Tyler De Haan commented, “We are thrilled that this Summer Potluck has become an annual community gathering. Inaugural BACooN Ride Iowa’s world-famous RAGBRAI is joining with the founders of the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition to create a unique event combining the love of bacon and the love of bike riding. The inaugural BACooN RIDE will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2014, and will cover 71 miles of the Raccoon River Valley Trail. Starting and ending at the trail head in Waukee, the bacon-lover’s ride will feature numerous bacon stops with delicious treats from the BACoon RIDE menu, along with a bacon-themed lunch.

Third annual Washington Township tractor ride

The third annual Washington Township tractor ride will be held Saturday, June 28. The ride will leave the school at 9 a.m. and return mid-afternoon for pie and ice cream.

The ride will go through Minburn, Dallas Center, and Adel, returning by Sportsman Road. A community breakfast will be served from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. at the school prior to the ride. WHERE: Washington Township

Dallas County 4-H and FFA Open Horse Show

The Dallas County 4-H and FFA Open Horse Show will be held on Saturday, June 28.

This free event is open to the public to watch. Classes will include trail, in-hand, showmanship, English, Western, hunter hack, miniature mumping, pony pleasure, novice rider, pole bending, barrel racing and bareback. Both rider and horse will be put to the challenge as judges scrutinize the animal’s walk, extended trot and canter. This event is open to all 4-H and FFA members in Iowa. Classes will be divided based on school grade as of September 15, 2013. Cost to show is $5 per class or $30 for the whole day. All around hi-point champion buckles will be awarded to each division senior, intermediate and junior. Those interested in participating should contact Dallas County Horse Superintendent Sarah Van Pelt by June 27.

Waukee hosting Celebration in Brass Celebration in Brass will return to central Iowa on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at 7 p.m. at the Waukee High School Stadium. The premier drum and bugle corps competition event is expected to draw over 3,000 spectators, showcasing eight corps from across the country with approximately 1,000 young performers and support staff.

Minburn is hosting a celebration starting Thursday, July 3 and continuing through July 4.

Thursday’s activities include a food stand, touch the truck event and the band Ma Deuce playing from 7-10 p.m. on the stage.

Friday features the main parade at 9 a.m. followed by horseshoes at 11:30 a.m., obstacle course (12-5 p.m.), inflatable slide (12-5 p.m.), circus train (12-5 p.m.), child’s ferris wheel (12-5 p.m.), all wheels show (1-4:30 p.m.), kids pedal pullers (1 p.m.), bean bag toss (1 p.m.), bingo (1:30 p.m.), face painting, pine wood derby races (2-4:30 p.m.), puppet show (5 p.m.) and fireworks at dusk at the ball park.
