The Friends of The Granger Public Library needs new members board of directors, says Board Member Patty Groth.
“Our primary role is to help raise additional funds for the library,” says Groth. “These are funds above and beyond what the library receives from the State of Iowa and Dallas County. Most of the money we raise goes to buy new books and other materials.”
According to Board Member Lisa Steinbach, the library as a part of the City of Granger cannot seek donations.
“That’s our job,” says Steinbach. “We work with Library Director Anna Shilling and her staff to develop a budget and an area of concentration for the year, such as young adult books.”
In addition to Friends memberships, the group’s primary fundraising effort is its annual book sale as part of Granger Days every August.
Groth and Steinbach add the requirements for board membership are minimal; a current Granger Public Library card and commitment to meet four to six times annually. School-age children of board members are expected to attend either Woodward-Granger or Assumption schools.
