Senate Republican Leader Bill Dix, R-Shell Rock, has appointed State Senator Jake Chapman as ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Committee. Senator Chapman, R-Adel, assumes the Appropriations post from Senator Jack Whitver, who was elected Republican Whip by Senate Republicans earlier this week.
“Senator Chapman brings a wealth of business and budgeting knowledge to the appropriations committee,” Senator Dix said. “He plays a valuable role in operating his family business, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2014. Senator Chapman stands firm on sound budgeting principles such as not spending more than what the state receives in revenues and not spending one-time money to fund ongoing expenses.”
“Iowans understand the importance of not overspending when it comes to their family budgets and they expect the same of legislators when it comes to the state budget,” Senator Chapman said.
The Legislative session begins January 13. Senator Chapman said legislators will focus their efforts during the 2014 session on the state budget and growing Iowa jobs. Senator Chapman is serving his first term in the Iowa Senate. In addition to serving as ranking member of the appropriations committee, Chapman serves on the Commerce, Ways and Means, State Government and Labor and Business Relations committees. Senator Chapman represents District 10, which includes Dallas, Guthrie, Adair and portions of Polk and Cass counties.
