On Tuesday, July 8 at 1:04 a.m., Dallas County Deputies were dispatched to the Dallas County Fairgrounds at 28057 Fairgrounds Road, just north of Adel. The call referred to a stabbing and deputies were initially told the suspect may also have a firearm. It was later determined that no gun was involved.
Dallas County Sheriff’s Deputies, the Adel Police Department, the Waukee Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, Dallas County EMS, and the Adel Fire Department all responded to the scene.
Deputies located Richard Daniel Edmunds, 43, of West Branch with two stab wounds to his back. Edmunds was transported to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines where he underwent surgery to have the knife removed from his back. The extent of his injuries are not known at this time, but his injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The suspect, Paul Joseph Boruch, 43, of South Bend, Indiana was located on the other side of the fairgrounds. He was taken into custody without incident. Boruch was then transported to Mercy Hospital for unknown injuries.
The investigation is ongoing and still being pursued. Several witnesses at the scene were interviewed and evidence at the scene was gathered. According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, the incident appears to be isolated between employees of the carnival and alcohol may have been a factor.
