Peggy Stecklein with Dallas County Public Health was recently awarded the 2013 Richard Remington Award by the Iowa Public Health Association (IPHA).
Stecklein was nominated by Public Health Director Janice Jensen based on her service in Dallas County.
“Dallas County is very fortunate to have a community health champion such as Peggy,” said Jensen. “Her caring, insightful, imaginitive and inspiring approach has been instrumental in maximizing client access to existing resources within a medial home framework as well as moving communities to assist their residents to make healthier choices.”
Stecklein’s accomplishments includes developing an online, live resource directory, designing and sustainging a Health Care navigation system, implementing environmental change in multiple Dallas County communities that includes completiion of I-Walk projects, assisting businesses to achieve compliance with NEMS-V standars as well as the development of lactation rooms, working with local restaurants to achieve healthier menus and local passage of smoke-free parks.
The Richard Remington Award recognizes an individual, a team of individuals, or a community/business that has excelled in the advancement of public health. Eligibility requires excellence in advancing new or existing public health promotion/prevention initatives or a long-term educational dedication to public health.
