Runners of all ages and abilities are invited to attend the 9th Annual Sweet Corn Festival 5k on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 8 a.m.
The race starts at Court St. and North 11th St. in Adel.
Parking will be available in town or at the Adel-De Soto-Minburn High School, 801 Nile Kinnick Dr. South in Adel. Transportation will be provided from the high school to the race location between 6:45 and 7:45 a.m.
Early registration is $25 through June 30, late registration is $30. T-shirts will only be guaranteed for registrations received by July 26.
This year, race proceeds will benefit the A-D-M Scholarship Foundation, which is a non-profit organization established to provide financial assistance through scholarships to students graduating from A-D-M who wish to further their education.
Refreshments and awards will be provided after the race. Also, medal awards will be given to first through third place overall in both men’s and women’s categories. Awards will also be given for the top two men and women runners in specified age categories. There will also be a prize for the best corn-related costume on a race participant.
Sponsorship for last year’s event included Adel Partners Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau Financial Services, Culligan, Fareway, Net Image Group, Aviva, Core Physical Therapy Group, BASE, Hawkeye Breeders and Harvey’s Floral Company.
Last year 438 participants took part in the 5K event, but the 5K Committee hopes to increase that number to 650 runners this year.
