Thousands expected for Bacoon Ride

Dallas County will be overrun with bicyclists this weekend as the inaugural Bacoon Ride is scheduled to start Saturday morning.

The 71-mile ride features many Dallas County stops including Adel, Redfield, Linden, Dawson, Perry, Minburn, Dallas Center and Waukee. Bacon is the theme of the ride with numerous stops featuring bacon snacks, samples and bacon-themed drink specials.

Waukee marks the start and finish of the bike trek with pre-ride festivities taking place Friday night at Centennial Park. Bicyclists also have the option to camp in Waukee Friday and Saturday night. The event is being promoted as the ultimate RAGBRAI training ride and is presented by RAGBRAI, the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival and the Iowa Bicycle Coalition with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting the coalition, RAGBRAI’s Dream Team and other Iowa charities.

According to www.bacoonride.com, over 2,200 riders were registered as of May 21. There is a 3,000 rider limit with no on-site registration available. Interested riders must register by Friday, June 27. For more information, visit www.bacoonride.com.
