Greetings! We had a great week and the crocheting group was interesting. We may think about moving it to earlier in the day so it isn’t so late for the kids. Please let me know what you think. We are considering 4 p.m. This way the kids and adults can get home for the evening meal.

This week we have book club on Thursday at 7 p.m. We will be discussing “Where Lilacs Still Bloom” by Jane Kirkpatrick. Be sure to stop in and join the conversation. Then we will be handing out the next read. The next read is a newer book called “Where’d You Go Bernadette?” by Maria Semple a touching novel about a misplaced genius and a mother and daughter’s roles in an absurd world. This book on Amazon has a 4.5 rating.

We will continue after school programs everyday focusing on Super Heroes. The latest challenge is for the kids to create a super hero of their own. Michelle and I asked them to draw the picture of their super hero and what their super abilities are. This will be fun as we see what each comes up with.

Chad Lewis, author of “The Van Meter Visitor” will be at the Winterset library this Saturday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. He is going to be talking about Iowa’s Haunted Places. He has a book about this that is a travel guide and quite useful when traveling around the state. Be sure to come hear him and this is free to the public.

Jan. 30 will be our next Sci-Fi/Fantasy Lover’s book club. We will view an old online movie and discuss our current reads. Please join us at 7 p.m. at the library. Bring a drink and we will supply the popcorn. This is for all ages,

We have the Dallas County Conservationists coming soon for the kids. I will announce the date and time next week. This is for all ages. I believe this month they will be talking about the woodlands.

Well we have had donations of awesome reading material. I wanted to mention a few new titles we have:

“Crazy Horse & Custer” by S. Ambrose

“Cowboys, Mountain Men & Grizzly Bears” by M. Mayo

“Tales of the Mountain Men” Seventeen Stories of Survival, Exploration and Frontier Spirit

“Time of the Rangers” by Mike Cox

Be sure to stop in and check out these great books.

Last but not least I want to mention again to keep cheering the Van Meter Bulldogs on. The Boys are 11-1 and the girls are 9-4. Let’s really back them and show we got Bulldog Spirit.

So be sure to stop in at your library for books, movies, magazines, games and more. But most of all to see your friends and community.

Jolena and Michelle
