Happy February! How about those Van Meter Bulldogs in basketball? As of this writing the boys had still only lost one and the girls four. I am cheering them on all the way. GO BULLDOGS!
This month we have the following activities: After school activities, reading and snacks daily. Each Wednesday at 10 a.m. story time for all ages!
Feb. 13 - Crocheting, knitting and crafting with Shannon. This month we will be working on our knitting skills but you can bring and enjoy any project you are working on.
Feb. 20 - book club at the library! We are reading “Where’d You Go Bernadette?” This book is by Maria Semple and is very good. We will be meeting in person but if you want to join us online either call or email me at 996-2435 or firstname.lastname@example.org. You can use a computer or almost any device to join us at the www.anywherebookclub.com. We will start at 7 p.m. that evening!
Feb. 27 - Sci-Fi/Fantasy lover book club. Bring your latest read and Jolena is going to share a couple of Scifi fliers and book ideas. This also starts at 7 p.m. at the library.
The Van Meter Visitor Festival is the last Saturday in September. I will be getting a committee set up to start working on this in March. Rachel and Amanda from our trustee board have volunteered and I will be on the committee as well. I am also seeking three or four people from the Van Meter community to be a part of this committee. Please let Jolena know if you are interested at email@example.com. Thank you!
We have a new book in that might interest a lot of you:
“The Demographic Cliff - How to Survive and Prosper during the Great Deflation of 2014 -2019”. This book is by Harry S. Dent Jr. and is published by Penguin. The patron who has started to read this has shared several interesting items from this book with me. I believe there is a lot of information to glean here.
NEW DVDS IN THE LIBRARY:
“Downton Abbey” Seasons 1-3;
“Breaking Bad” Seasons 1-4 (we have two sets);
“Witches”, “Halo-Legends”, “The Butler”, and “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice”.
We have several new books in, including a recommendation by the school librarian, Shannon McClintock Miller, “The Boy on the Front Porch” by Sharon Creech.
Just a reminder we have “Taste of Home cook book for 2014”.
We also have several biographies donated to us by Larry Lau. The following are available: “Johhny Cash”, “Charlie Pride” and “Loretta Lynn”. Larry also donated several books on trains and the railroad. Thank you Larry. I also want to thank Mark Cummings, Summer McNair, Sue Thompson, Carl Lyons, John Jungman and many others for their donations. We are so blessed at The Van Meter Public Library to have so many of you drop off great books, new magazines and puzzles. Last but not least please welcome Nancy Lacy as our newest Library board trustee. Please thank her and I want to say we could not have this wonderful library without our trustee board. -Jolena
