Greetings! We have a lot of great kid’s books for spring, the seasons, the great outdoors, plants, rain, and more.

We have the following coming up in our schedule:

March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the library is our library trustee board meeting.

March 27 at 7 p.m. at the library is our Sci-Fi/Fantasy lover book club. We will be discussing the book “Dreamships” by Melissa Scott. Jolena will hand out information on new and upcoming Sci-Fi/Fantasy online and in books.

We will hand out our next read “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. So be sure to join us.

March 31 at 4:15 p.m. we will have the Dallas County Conservationist at the library to have a program on “Frogs, Toads, and Salamanders” So be sure to mark this on your calendars as we always have a great time. We continue to have after school fun, activities and snacks each day. This is for all school aged children and teens.

I want to thank everyone who helped make the movie, pizza and popcorn time for Spring Break such a success. We had about 60 and we enjoyed the Casey’s pizza. Thank you to the Van Meter Veteran’s Reception Center and Leslie Herman.

We have a few new movies in: “The Book Thief”,” Hunger Games-Catching Fire”, “Twelve Years a Slave”, “Frozen”. “Ender’s Game”, “Captain Phillips” and more. These were donated by a patron. Thank you!

I want to say a big “Thank You” for all the donations we receive. We even had a patron step forward to pay for the summer reading program materials.

These donations of books, movies, magazines, time and funds are more important than ever in this next budget year 2014-2015. The city of Van Meter had to make some budget cuts. The city council and city administrator decided to cut the library budget by $6,000. I know these decisions are very difficult to make. I want to thank our patrons and reader’s from surrounding communities that continue helping their libraries. I want you to know I take this responsibility very seriously.

Well there are a few people from this past week: Brandon at Casey’s, Sam Welker, Rachel Backstrom, Portia Haynes, Daniel Duarte, Deanne Cornileson, Tawnya Jacobs, Mark Cummings, Joyce Welker, Chad Gillespie, Nancy Hayer, Watsons, Deb Traxler, Julie Welker, Michelle Boren and Nick Sullivan. These are just the ones I know about. You may have donated books, movies, food, time or funds but I just want you to know you make our community a wonderful place to be. Thank You!

My movie recommendation of the week is “Nim’s Island”. I watched it with my daughter and it is one we have in at the library. Come see us! - Jolena and Michelle
