Greetings! I hope everyone had a great Easter. What a beautiful weekend. We had one of the kids on Saturday putting Easter Eggs on our windows on Saturday.

This upcoming week is busy with activities.

Thursday night at 7 p.m. is Sci/Fi Fantasy book club at the library. We will be discussing “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury and we will be handing out “The Power of Three.” Tuesday, April 29 will be our first committee meeting for “The Van Meter Visitor Festival” meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the library. The committee consists of Alyssa Belcourt, Dianne Edwards, Portia Haynes, Michelle Boren, Rachel Backstrom, Amanda Durflinger, and Jolena Welker. If you have ideas that you would like to share let one of the committee members know. Mark your calendar for Sept. 27 for the whole day to enjoy the Visitor Festival this fall.

The FRIEND’s of the Van Meter Public Library are taking donations for their book and bake sale that will be held May 10 at the Methodist Church in Van Meter. If you would like to bake items for this please sign up at the library.

The sale will go from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and lunch will also be served. The proceeds from this sale will benefit The Van Meter Public Library.

A couple of new books in the library this past week are:

• “The Duck Commander Family”-Duck Dynasty;

• “Words of Radiance” by Brandon Sanderson.

We also have these series of Guideposts Fiction in our library:

• “Home to Heather Creek” series;

• “Patchwork Mysteries” series;

• “Tales From Grace Chapel Inn” series. I also want to thank the patrons who are paying for the Culligan Water in the library. This is enjoyed by all, especially after school and on those hot days.

I also want to thank those that donate the brand new “Parents” and “Family Fun” magazines. Quite a few of the magazines that the library had subscriptions to will be stopped due to budget cuts, just as the water was stopped. Thank you so much and also to our volunteers in the library. We could not do this without you. I would like to also remind everyone about The Literary paper we are starting at the library. Shannon Buckner is editor and this will showcase local works of art, poetry, short stories, comics, music etc. If you have something for the May issue please send it to theliterarypaper@outlook.com by April 23. We will be publishing this each month. We have a lot of creative people around and this is a great way to promote your work.

Don’t forget April is poetry month and we doing have a lot of wonderful poetry books for all ages.

-Jolena Welker
