Hello! Here we are in snow country Van Meter, Iowa. I know a lot of you reading this have the same snow. For those of you out of state we have enjoyed a very snowy Sunday. This is a great time to be inside curled up with the family and a great read. Everyone be safe as it is below zero wind shield temperatures.
I do know the Van Meter kids will love this and the big mountain of snow that the maintenance guys will plow up by the library park. So this week the kids will be playing a lot of King of the Mountain and sledding or sliding!
This past week the after school kids had a lot of fun. Great snacks, a North Pole workshop to make cards for the Grinch, making and coloring their own “T’Was the Night Before Christmas” book, making Christmas center pieces with Michelle and quilling with Shannon B. Thank you to Michelle, Shannon B., Donell, Jenny, Portia, Stef and many other parents and adults who help at the library.
This week by the time you read the paper we will have had the Dallas County Conservationists in to share and teach the kids on Tuesday about Bison.
Then Thursday is another craft time with Shannon B. at 6:30 p.m. Stop in the library or check the city’s Facebook to see what we will be doing. One thing I can promise is it will be fun and you will go home with an awesome craft and great ideas.
Chad Lewis called me this past Friday with an update on how everything is going. We are planning now for “The Van Meter Visitor Festival” in September 2014. If you have any ideas or want to be a part of this call Jolena at 996-2435.
Chad also told me he is speaking at The Winterset Library in January about Haunted Places in Iowa. You will want to be sure and attend. I know I will be there.
Book club is scheduled for Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. with craft time being held the same evening at 6:30 p.m. The Van Meter Public Library will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 for Christmas. We hope you all get to spend time with family and friends. We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas!
I want to mention last, we have a great selection of Christmas movies and books, Or you are welcome to stop in and we will set you up with impromptu craft items. We will have a crafting area where you can make gifts that won’t cost you anything. We have all kinds of ideas and the materials to make them from. I love home made gifts. So come and try making cards, book marks, picture frames, ornaments, journals or any other item you want. We will even set you up with coffee, cocoa, ice water so you can relax while you work. There are many fun ideas at your library.
Michelle and I want to thank everyone who uses and supports their local public library.
We would also like to thank the Library Trustee Board, Mayor and city council, Jake, Liz, Dave, Chad and our Police and Fire Departments. We are very blessed to live in Van Meter.
