Long-time Waukee resident, Geoff Warmouth, has been named Waukee’s 2013 Citizen of the Year. During the Waukee City Council meeting on May 19. Mayor Bill Peard named the owner of Waukee Hardware on the Downtown Triangle as Waukee’s 29th Citizen of the Year. Warmouth was chosen for the award by a committee consisting of Mayor Peard; Dr. David Wilkerson, superintendent for the Waukee Community School District; Jerry Purdy, Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce President; and 2012 Citizen of the Year Cyndi Craigmile.
Warmouth was selected because of his service to the community in various areas including donations to local schools, churches and organizations – his dedication to customer service and tradition at Waukee Hardware and his diligent work as a Waukee ambassador for new community members. Warmouth and his store were called a part of the “heart and soul” of Waukee by nominator Dr. Tom Buckmiller.
“We are proud to call Geoff a resident of Waukee,” said Mayor Bill Peard. “He is a perfect example of a resident working to establish a sense of community amongst both long-term and new residents.”
As Citizen of the Year, Warmouth will be honored with a public reception on June 23 from 6-8 p.m. at Waukee City Hall and presented with a Key to the City by Mayor Peard, as well as being recognized by riding in Waukee’s 4th of July and WaukeeFest parades.
