The Waukee Middle School Eighth Grade Jazz Improvisation Group demonstrated in a session at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference Thursday, May 16. Teachers Deb Dunn and Mary Crandell presented a session for other band directors in the state on “Embedding Jazz Into Your Beginning or Middle School Band Program.” “The session was well attended and sparked some conversation through a Q and A at the end of the session. The students were also engaged in the discussion with other directors. They answered questions that other directors had for them. Our students represented Waukee Bands to their fullest!”, said Crandell.
