Waukee man dies after 13-hour standoff

Michael Lane Pfannebecker, 48, was found dead inside his Waukee home from an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound to the head after a 13-hour standoff with local law enforcement. The standoff started after Waukee Police received a call around 12:37 a.m. Monday morning from Pfannebecker’s wife located on the 1400 block of Southeast Rosenkranz Dr.

The wife said her husband was intoxicated inside the home, located at 1410 Rosenkranz Dr. in Waukee, and was armed. She was removed from the home, but her husband refused to leave. Authorities stated the suspect was not confrontational, but he did step outside with a gun in his hand.

They continued negotiating with the man until 2:10 p.m. when a tactical team entered the home.

Lt. Troy Mapes with the Waukee Police Department said Pfannebecker’s body has been taken to the medical examiner and will take 6-8 weeks to receive a full report.
