Alice “Jane” Siglin Roberts, 98 of Valparaiso, Indiana passed away on March 22, 2014 at the home of her daughter in Attica, Indiana. She was born April 14th 1915 in Woodward, Iowa to Jacob and Florence Siglin. Jane graduated from Woodward High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1932. She attended Drake University for her teaching certificate, received her B.S. from the University of Northern Iowa and her M.A. from Valparaiso University. She taught in the Valparaiso Schools, retiring in 1977. She previously worked as a physical therapist at Porter Memorial Hospital. During World War II, she joined the WACS and was trained as a physical therapist at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC achieving the rank of Lieutenant. During her military service she met and married Thomas H. Roberts from Red Key, Indiana who preceded her in death in 2002. Together they raised four children, Thomas (Jackie) of Marshall, WI., deceased in 2000, Mark (Marilyn) of Tempe, AZ., John (Jo) of Galien, MI., and Sarah (Jerry) Mattern of Attica, IN. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Jane dedicated her life to her family, church and community. She was a women of great faith and very active in the First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso, U.M.W., Church Women United, P.E.O., and Porter County Retired Teachers Association. Jane and she husband also spent many enjoyable years gardening and landscaping their lovely home, where family often gathered. Jane’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 29th, 2014 at the Valparaiso United Methodist Church, 103 Franklin St. Valparaiso, IN. Viewing at the church will begin at 11:00 AM with a service and meal to follow at 1:00 PM In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the U.M.W..- African University Operations Campaign, U.M.W. - Scholarship Fund, Porter County Community Foundation- Thomas H. and Alice J. Roberts Scholarship or the Attica United Methodist Church. Bartholomew Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
