Avis D. Moody, 85, of Ames, passed away February 11, 2014 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 17 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. There will be a visitation one hour prior the service. Burial of the cremated remains will be at a later date.

Avis D. Moody was born September 1, 1928 to Ole and Mona (Metcalf) Danielson in Ellsworth, Iowa. Avis was united in a Christ-centered marriage to John H. Moody on June 24, 1966.

She was an active member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. Her faith in God is what guided her through life. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Avis was a proud graduate of Waldorf College and UNI. Her career as a junior high English teacher was fulfilled by her teaching years at both Webster City and Ames.

Avis enjoyed her activities at church and was an avid gardener. Avis also enjoyed knitting and reading. Her greatest joy was being with her family. She will always be remembered for her kringla, which was always the very best because she made it with love.

She is survived by her children, Beth (Bill) Shields, of Adel and Tim Moody, of Claremont, California; her grandchildren, John Moody, Emma Shields, Jeana Moody and Neil Shields; her sister, Anna Marie LeMaster; her brother, Raymond (Lois) Danielson; sisters-in-law, Zada and Betsi; and her many dear nieces and nephews.

Avis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her brothers, Oswald, Howard and Duane; her sister-in-law, Imo Gene; and her brother-in-law, Frances LeMaster.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Bethany Manor or Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Adams Funeral Home in Ames is assisting the family with arrangements.
