Carroll Loren Neville, 87, died on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa. In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service was held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 15, at First Presbyterian Church in Dallas Center, of which he was a member. A private family committal service took place.
Carroll was born on April 3, 1926, at Stuart, Iowa, to Elliott C. and Geneva (Junk) Neville. At the age of 13, he moved with his family to Des Moines. Carroll was a 1944 graduate of Des Moines Technical High School. He served with the U.S. Army from 1945 - 1947. Carroll received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Drake University in 1960 and taught math and chemistry at Murray, Iowa for 3 years, where he met his lifelong friend, Larry Cozad; and at Dallas Center-Grimes for 25 years. Carroll was a member of the Auburn-Union Park Lodge #592 of the Masons. His hobbies and interests were collecting Indian artifacts, hunting, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his two nephews, Warren Neville of Richardson, TX and Mark Neville of Rochester, MN; two stepdaughters, Marcia Miller and Maurine Twait; stepson, Robert Ward; and many step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alice Bennett Rogers Neville; second wife, Lila Parker Ward Neville; and two brothers, Kenneth and Thomas Neville.
The family wishes to express their deep and heartfelt appreciation to the Staff at Spurgeon Manor for the wonderful care, love and compassion they gave Carroll.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Dallas Center.
