Charles LaValley, 83, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, at home. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m. Sunday, February 16, at Iles-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center. Cremation will follow visitation and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 17 at the Dallas Center United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will be held at Masonic Cemetery in Dallas Center.
Charlie was born in Madrid to John and Evelyn (Ellerman) LaValley. The family moved to Granger when he was three years old where he was raised and graduated from Granger High School Charlie married Agnes Dixon in 1952 and farmed with his father. He also farmed in Herrold, and later moved to Dallas Center in 1961 where he rented ground from Rhinehart Farms and worked with his father-in-law. Charlie loved farming, especially feeding cattle. The last ten years of Charlie’s working career he worked at Intervet in Dallas Center.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Agnes, his children, Linda (Dennis) Shelley of Redfield and Richard (Linda) LaValley of Dallas Center; his grandchildren, Kevin Shelley of Perry, Alicia (David) Murphy of Guthrie Center, Kristin (Nick) Clinkinbeard of Cedar Rapids and Angela (John) Tate of West Des Moines; and eight great-grandchildren; Tina Nicoles, Zachary and Zander Shelley, Charlotte and Joe Clinkinbeard and Jaden, Bryce and Izabella Murphy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dallas Center United Methodist Church, Dallas County Cattleman’s Association or the Rowley Masonic Home. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
