Dennis Scar was born the third of four sons on June 25, 1949, to Darlene and Alvin (Sam) Scar in Dexter, Iowa. He was raised on his family farm in Madison County, Iowa, where he lived as an adult and died in his home on September 25, 2013, following a courageous but short battle with cancer. After graduating from Earlham High School, Dennis received a degree from Iowa State University and soon began his chosen career in agriculture. He was married to Christine Bond in 1970, and they were blessed with three children. Dennis loved the farm and was particularly good with mechanical projects and working with metal. He enjoyed his shop and was known for his immaculate and organized workspace. For many years he operated Scar Repair Shop along with his farming operation. In addition to farming, Dennis served for a time on the Sheep Producers Board and also as a trustee for Zion Lutheran Church, of which he was a life-long member. He enjoyed the trips taken with family members to several National Parks and took pleasure from spending time with his children and grandsons. Dennis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leora and Claiborne Wilson; Charlie and Katie Scar; and his father, Alvin Scar. Celebrating his life is his wife of 43 years, Christine Scar and his children: Deni (Ed) Sobek of Oak Ridge, TN, Christa Scar of Omaha, and Charles (Nicole) Scar of Earlham – his grandsons: Isaac and Kaleb Sobek and Carter Scar – his mother: Darlene Scar of Earlham and his brothers: Richard (Janice) Scar of Buena Vista, CO, Robert (Lisa) Scar of Asheville, NC, and David (Jere) Scar of Woodward. His many nieces, nephews and friends will also remember him.
