Donald Leland Harper was born November 26, 1922 to Henry and Martha Harper in Redfield, Iowa. Don was married in 1944 to Mary Etta Laughman, and they had two sons and a daughter. They lived in rural Adel, Iowa where they raised their three children. Don worked at Meredith publishing company for over 20 years, while he also farmed. Don moved to Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, late in life.

Don is survived by his sister, Belva Beck, of Cedar Rapids; son Dennis Harper of Iowa City; daughter Karen Collins of Minneapolis, MN and daughter-in-law Becky Harper of Martensdale. Don also has four grandchildren: Amy Barker of Iowa City, Cara Pederson of Topeka, KS, Dan Harper of Lawrence, KS, and Veronica Heldenbrand of El Paso, TX, as well as four great-grandchildren: Ryan and Abby Barker, MaryJayne and Thomas Pederson. Don enjoyed being out on the farm, bicycle riding, the outdoors, puzzles, watching football and the Heavenly Father.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held in the Spring for close family and community friends.

Don was proceeded in death by his son, Gaylord; his wife, Mary; and brothers Clarence and Clifford. The family would like to thank all the staff at Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Hospice for the love, support and care given to Donald. He will be remembered as a great husband, father, friend and grandfather.
