Harold D. Carey, 68, of Grand Island, Neb. died Friday, June 13, 2014.
Celebration of life service was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at All Faiths Funeral Home. Military honors will be provided by the United States Navy and the Grand Island Veterans’ Honor Guard. Dan Naranjo will officiate. To honor Harold’s wishes, his ashes will be taken back to his boyhood home in Adel, Iowa.
A gathering of family and friends was from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Harold was born September 25, 1945 at Adel, Iowa to William and Faith (Kinnison) Carey.
Survivors include his children, Bill (Kristi) Carey of Grand Island and Rebecca Carey of Lincoln and four sisters, Lyda Scott of Adel, Alice Kuehl of Cottonwood, CA, Lola Boe of Cresco, Iowa and Lois Olson of Coralville, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rose Williams.
Those also left to cherish his memory include five grandchildren, Keisha, Tyler, Zaden, Treyten and Malec and numerous friends.
Harold grew up and received his education in Adel. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1965 and was honorably discharged November 24, 1967. During his enlistment he was stationed in Danang, Vietnam where he served as a Vietnamese translator.
Upon his discharged he was united in marriage to Colleen “Connie” Carey, the mother of his children, on April 2, 1970. They made their home in Grand Island and Harold was the owner/operator of American Tree Service for 35 years.
Harold was a past member of the Elks. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. Harold worked hard his entire life to provide for his family and successfully passed his work ethic and entrepreneurial bent on to his children.
