Mary Frances Hall Nelson, 93, of Edina, MN and most recently St. Louis Park, MN, passed away April 1, 2013. She is survived by sons, Ray Jr. (Sally Dunn) and Bruce; daughter, Susan (Gregg Kubera); and grandchildren, David, Kiah, Charlie and Max. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy & Lucile Hall; brother, Laurens and former husband & dear friend, Ray E. Nelson, Sr.

She grew up in Dallas Center, Iowa where she graduated from high school at age 16 as valedictorian. She received her BA at Grinnell College in 1940 and treasured class reunions throughout her life.

She moved to Minneapolis and worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone, where she met her husband, Ray E. Nelson. Among her many interests, Mary Fran loved people, politics and sports.

She is remembered bymany for her years as assistant to the Edina High School athletic director, her many friendships with students and parents, her lucky green blazer at hundreds of games and her tireless work during tournaments in the 1960s and 1970s. She then made many more friends with the Minnesota Vikings as secretary for the head coach. She poured tremendous amounts of energy into fundraising and volunteer work for the Republican Party, particularly at the local level. In 2007, she was awarded the Lifetime Volunteer Award from the Senate District 41 Executive Committee for her tireless work on campaigns and with office holders. Mary Fran was the consummate organizer and brought those skills to everything she did, be it athletic events, political campaigns or family gatherings. Her family is grateful for the care and loving support she received at Parkshore Senior Community in St. Louis Park, and her hospice nurses, Kendra and Janelle; Chaplain Catherine; and Jody, Lurleen and the Lifesprk staff.
