Richard “Dick” Eugene Gerrard, who was born in Marshalltown, IA to Leo and Doris “Jessie” (Brothers) Gerrard, passed away on March 24, 2014 in Johnston, IA. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior, both at Ernst Funeral Home. Private interment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Dick grew up in several towns throughout Iowa. He graduated from Davenport H.S. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Saipan during WWII as a Seabee. Dick worked as a PBX Installer for Northwestern Bell/AT&T for 37 years. After retirement, he went on to work for Pioneer for 10 years as a groundskeeper, the City of Waukee and Auto Image. He was a hard working family man.

Dick married Linda Pfaff in 1992. A previous marriage to Peggy Bender resulted in three children. In his spare time Dick enjoyed his antique cars and car shows. He was a recreational pilot and flew his own plane.

He survived by his loving wife Linda of 21 years; daughters Joni (Joe) Hayes and Janiece (John) Zoutte; daughter-in-law Tonya Gerrard; grandchildren Ruanna, Eriah, Brittany, Autumn, Jennifer, Spencer and Kelsey; great-grandson Oliver; sister Beverly (Milton) Drenter and cousin Deenie Dallas. He was preceded in death by his son John Gerrard and sister Betty Schultz.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rabang, IA Heart Center, VA Medical Center and support staff, John and Barb Shoeman and Jerry Wright.
