Ruth Brown VrMeer, 94, of Dallas Center, formerly of Des Moines, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes – Brandt Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Brethren Cemetery near Dallas Center.
Ruth was born on November 28, 1918 in Sedgwick, KS to the late John “J.W.” and Addie (Shiery) Brown and grew up in Dallas Center. During World War II she worked as a welder for Solar Aircraft. She then completed training at AIB before beginning her long career at Fair Play Scoreboards in Des Moines. She and Herbert VrMeer were married in 1957. She was a lifelong member of Grace Brethren Church in Dallas Center and a fifty year member of Eastern Star in Adel. She enjoyed cross stitching and knitting.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; brother, Edward Brown and his wife, Ruth; and sister-in-law, Joan Brown. She is survived by her brother, Bill (Pat) Brown of Dallas Center; step son, Jim VrMeer of Los Angeles, CA and his children, David (Jen) VrMeer, and Jody (Matt) Coker; three great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; nephew, Scott Brown of Waukee; niece, Lori (Mick) Wenger of Adel and her children, Seth, Nathan and Aimee.
