Health care sign-up

To the Editor:

Depending on each insurance company’s guidelines, between 10 and 50 percent of Americans are considered to have a preexisting condition. Those with preexisting conditions on individual policies saw stiffer prices before the passage of the Affordable Care Act.

Many families without employer-based insurance who knew that their income was too high to qualify for subsidies bought their policies directly from the insurance company. The application process was a lot easier than in the past, because Marketplace insurers do not require detailed medical histories. Iowans may contact CoOportunity Health or Coventry directly to sign up before the 2014 open enrollment deadline of March 31. It is as easy as giving ages of family members, location, and credit card for those with higher incomes.
