What Are You Reading? … Mother/Daughter

Devon Murphy-Petersen

When author Kelly Corrigan was in high school, her mother made the comment “Your father’s the glitter but I’m the glue.” With that simple statement, Corrigan’s mom summarized both her marriage and her child-rearing philosophy. After college, much to her mother’s dismay, Corrigan left for Australia in search of adventure. When her savings ran out, she became a live-in nanny for a recently widowed man with two small children. As she cared for the children, Corrigan began to hear her mother’s voice everywhere, sparking memories of lessons in time gone by. By gathering these memories to herself, Corrigan was able to finally understand and help the family she was immersed in while simultaneously learning the difference between travel and life experience. “Glitter and Glue” by Kelly Corrigan will be released on Feb. 4. I highly recommend it, and look forward to reading her other books. Her two previous memoirs are: “The Middle Place” and “Lift”. What are you reading? Send me your recommendations! Email is best: I look forward to hearing from you!
