Boys take second at Van Meter Invitational, girls take sixth

The Van Meter boys’ and girls’ track teams hosted and competed in the Van Meter Invitational at Van Meter High School on April 21. The boys’ took second place overall with 108.5 points while the girls took sixth place with 63 team points.

Panorama won in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions. The boys had 145.5 team points and the girls had 144 team points.

Brennan Dostal, a Drake Relays qualifier this year, took second place in the 100 yard dash with a time of 11.21 seconds, which was just .02 seconds behind the winner, Darius Scott-Crayton of Woodward Academy. Dostal also took second place in the 400 yard dash, finishing .33 seconds behind Chase Hennen, who won the race with a time of 51.10 seconds.

Van Meter’s James Orf took first place in the 3200 yard run, finishing in 10:45. In the 400 yard hurdles, Grant Hoppes took second place with a time of 1:01.03.

The 4x400 yard relay team of Justin Ashley, Hoppes, Ben Flahert and Dostal took first place with a time of 3:37.53. The Bulldogs got second place in the 4x800 yard relay.

In boys field events, Brandon Brittain took second place in the discus throw with a distance of 127 feet.

In the girls competitions, the Bulldogs got first place in the 4x100 yard relay with a time of 54.76 seconds. The 4x100 relay team consisted of Ashlyn Riecks, Bailey Junge, Lauren Ashley and Katie Agey.

The 4x200 meter relay team for the Bulldog girls got first place with a time of 1:54.36. The sprint medley relay team of Jordan Huntley, Cierra Nickerson, Junge and Agey took first place with a time of 2:03.80.

Van Meter’s Nicole Meyer took first place in the high jump with a height of five feet.
