Bulldog boys win seventh-straight against Guthrie Center

The VM boys’ basketball team lost its second game of the season at the hands of Des Moines Christian in Urbandale on Tuesday. The Bulldogs lost 60-47.

Stephen Folkerts was 6-of-7 from the field and had 18 points in the game. He also grabbed six rebounds.

Brandon Brittain and Ben Flaherty were also both in double digits in points, Brittain having 13 and Flaherty having 10.

The girls also lost to Des Moines Christian. They lost by a score of 54-44. Katie Agey had 15 points and six rebounds in the contest while Mackenzie Roberts had 10 points with two made 3-point field goals.

Guthrie Center

Van Meter still had just one loss this season after defeating Guthrie Center in blowout fashion by a score of 63-21. The Bulldogs (18-1) held the Tigers (5-14) to single-digit scoring in all four quarters of the route.

Stephen Folkerts was the only Bulldog in double digits with 22 points on a 10-of-13 shooting performance. Senior Parker Sukow only had four points but led the Bulldogs in rebounding grabbing seven boards in the game.

Senior Jacob Eslick went 4-of-6 from the field and had eight points while leading the Bulldogs with six assists.

VM freshman Mackenzie Roberts continued her impressive season against Guthrie Center on Feb. 7. Roberts had 23 points before fouling out in the 55-35 win for the Bulldog girls.

She was able to do that on a 7-of-14 shooting performance and 3-of-6 effort from three-point range. She also had nine rebounds in the game.

Senior Caroline Maher went 6-of-11 from the field scoring 12 points. Maher tallied five assists and five steals as well.

Senior Katie Agey was also in double digits with a 10-point, eight-rebound, four assist effort for the Bulldogs.
