Bulldogs dealt first loss

Van Meter bounced back from its first loss with a 68-44 victory over Earlham on Tuesday.

The win was the Bulldogs’ 12th in 13 games this season. Van Meter had five players with double-digit scoring and shot just under 50 percent from the field.

Brandon Brittain finished with a team-high 15 points and five assists. Stephen Folkerts added 14 points and eight rebounds, Jake Eslick had 12 points, five assists and seven steals, and both Ben Trent and Parker Suckow both contributed 10 points. Suckow added 10 rebounds.

The Bulldogs dropped a 55-45 decision to Des Moines Christian on Jan. 10.

Van Meter was led by Brittain, who scored 12 points. Folkerts added 11 points and 11 rebounds, Ben Flaherty added seven points and Eslick finished with six points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Bulldogs travel north on Friday to face Woodward Academy before playing host to Madrid on Jan. 21. The Tigers took Van Meter to overtime in the teams’ first meeting this season. Van Meter prevailed, 68-63.
