Bulldogs, Hawks compete at WCAC conference track meet

The high school track season is well past the half-way point for most of the schools in the state of Iowa. With that, the West Central Activities Conference track meet took place on Tuesday in Van Meter.
The Van Meter and Woodward-Granger girls’ track team tied for sixth with 47 team points each. The Van Meter boys got fourth with 74 team points while the Woodward-Granger boys got fifth with 62.5 team points.
Abby Musser took first place in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.25 seconds. Musser is currently No. 6 in Class 1A in the state of Iowa in the 100 meter hurdles with a season-best time of 15.95 seconds.
Musser also took second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.23 seconds, fifth in the 400 meter hurdles, and she helped the Hawks’ 4x800 meter relay team to a second-place finish.
The W-G boys’ distance medley relay team took first place with a time of 3:47.73. The boys distance medley relay team consisted of Seth Noel, Austin Olesen, Marshall Nieland and Johnnie Morgan.
The Van Meter girls 4x200 meter relay team of Ashlyn Reicks, Ali Flaherty, Lauren Ashley and Katie Agey took first place with a time of 1:52.38. Their 4x400 meter relay team made up of Flaherty, Nicole Meyer, Ellie Folkerts and Agey also took first place with a time of 4:20.07.
Brennan Dostal, a Drake Relays qualifier this year for Van Meter, took first place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.76 seconds while also helping the 4x400 meter relay team with Justin Ashley, Grant Hoppes and Ben Flaherty to a first-place finish with a time of 3:34.56. The Hawks took second place in the 4x400 meter relay behind the Bulldogs.
Dostal also took third in the 200 meter dash and second in the 400 meter dash. Dostal is currently No. 6 in Class 2A in the 100 meter dash.
W-G’s Kaleb Noel got second place in the 400 meter hurdles while the Van Meter boys 4x800 meter relay team took second place.
