The Van Meter boys’ track team traveled to Osceola for the Crawford Invite hosted by Clarke High School on April 10. The Bulldogs took first at the meet with 121 points as a team.
VM’s Brennan Dostal got first place in the 100 meter dash, finishing the sprint in 11.49 seconds and securing 10 points towards the Bulldogs’ total score. Jake Nelson got third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.95.
Dostal also took first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.94 seconds and the 400 meter dash with a time of 53.30 seconds. VM’s Brady O’Brien got fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.19 seconds.
Austin Ashlehy of Van Meter got first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:14.10. James Orf got second place in the 1600 meter run, finishing the race in 5:06.14.
Orf took first in the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:55.30. VM’s Grant Hoppes won the 400 meter hurdle event, finishing the race in 1:00.03.
In the discus throw, Brandon Brittain and Parker Suckow got fourth and fifth place. Brittain got fourth with a throw 125-04 and Suckow got fifth with a throw of 122-08.
Van Meter’s Ben Flaherty got third in the high jump with a height of 5-08.
The Bulldogs won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:43.73 and the 4x800 meter relay as well with a time of 8:56.20.
The Van Meter girls’ track team competed at Interstate-35 in Truro and came out of the event in fourth place, scoring 66 team points. I-35 won the meet, scoring 115 team points.
Katie Agey took second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.65 seconds. She also took second place in the 200 meter dash, finishing the race in 28.16 seconds while Ali Flaherty got fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.97.
Ellie Folkerts took third in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 1:06.64. The Bulldogs won two relay races with the 4x200 meter relay team consisting of Ashlyn Riecks, Flaherty, Lauren Ashley and Agey taking first place with a time of 1:54.18 and the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Bailey Richards, Nicole Meyer, Folkerts and Flaherty taking first place with a time of 4:27.42.
The Bulldogs’ 4x100 meter relay team finished their race in 54.92 seconds, good enough for third place while the sprint medley relay and distance medley relay teams each took fifth place.
In field events, Meyer won the high jump competition with a height of 4-09.
