A-D-M joins Class 3A rankings at No. 9

The No. 9 A-D-M softball team — that’s right, the Tigers are now ranked — traveled to Underwood on Tuesday and came out the winners by a score of 14-0. The win was the Tigers’ ninth-straight and their 17th since June 12 when they lost to Dallas Center-Grimes 7-0.

Montana Popp led the way for the Tigers with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with a double, a homerun, four RBIs and two runs scored. Amanda Seiler also had four RBIs for the Tigers while scoring two runs.

Jessica Wyant went 2-for-3 and scored three runs. Molly Jacobsen pitched all four innings and got the win with seven strikeouts.

Solon Tourney

The A-D-M softball team just keeps winning with the regular season nearing it’s end. Last weekend, the Tigers went 4-0 at a tournament in Solon on June 27 and 28. They defeated Iowa City High 5-4, Keokuk 1-0, Ottumwa 2-0 and Des Moines Lincoln 2-1.

In the 5-4 victory over Iowa City High, Caitlyn Gruening and Molly Jacobsen had two RBIs apiece while Kenzi Sutton also had one RBI and a double. Jacobsen gave up four hits and four runs and struck out 13 batters in the win.

In the 1-0 win over Keokuk, it was Jessica Wyant who crossed the plate in the top of the eighth inning to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. After blanking Keokuk in the bottom half of the inning, the Tigers were declared the winners.

Jacobsen struck out 14 more batters in that game.

Gabbie Glenn and Wyant scored a run each in the top of the fifth inning to lift the Tigers to a 2-0 win over Ottumwa while Jacobsen had 12 more strikeouts.

While Jacobsen only had four strikeouts against Lincoln, that didn’t stop the Tigers from a 2-1 victory.

The win over Lincoln was the Tigers’ eighth-straight and their 16th since June 13, with their only loss over that period being a 3-2 loss to Ames back on June 21. Following that game, Jacobsen was leading all classes in the state in strikeouts with 274, 27 more than Alexis Korte of Central Springs, who is second in the state.

A-D-M was set to play at Norwalk on June 26, but the rain and severe weather forced that game to be canceled.
