The Adel-De Soto-Minburn track team recently competed at the ISU High School Classic in Ames and will compete at an indoor competition at Central College in Pella on Friday as they prepare for the outdoor track season, that is set to begin on April 4 with a meet at Winterset.
A-D-M coach Mike Whisner mentioned a lot of areas of the team when talking about the team’s strengths for the upcoming season.
“I think we’re strong in the throws, we’ll be strong in the hurdles, we’ll be strong in the sprint relays, we have pretty good distance kids, so relays with distance, the medley,” Whisner said. “The open mile, the 3,200 and the open 800 I think will be pretty strong.”
Thrower Jesse Bennett took third in the shot put at the ISU High School Classic on Tuesday with a distance of 50-11. Last season, he was the Tigers’ leading thrower with a distance of 50-0, 11 inches shorter than he has already thrown this season at the ISU High School Classic.
Tate Jensen led the team in 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter hurdles last season and is back on the team this season. His time on the 110 meter hurdles was 14:93 and his time on the 400 meter hurdles was 55:53.
On Tuesday in Ames he did the 60 meter hurdles in 8.74.
“We’ve got about 10 seniors out and we’ve got pretty good leadership out of that group,” Whisner said.
The Tigers open up their season on April 4 with a meet in Winterset. The meet will begin at 4:30 p.m.
