A-D-M seventh grader competes in national gymnastics competition

Emma Brown, a seventh grader at Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Middle School, was selected to compete in the Nastia Liukin Cup, which took place at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex in Greensboro, N.C on Feb. 28. Brown got the chance to meet Nastia Liukin and finished 18th overall at the event.

Brown, a Level 10 gymnast at Chows’ Gymnastics in West Des Moines, qualified for the event through the Wisconsin Dells Classic as the top junior level 10 competitor.

The Nastia Liukin cup is the annual artistic gymnastics competition held in the United States and hosted by Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin. First held in 2010, the event arose through a partnership between Liukin and USA Gymnastics, and is intended to serve as a debut for pre-elite competitors on the national stage. 36 competitors (18 Seniors age 16 and older and 18 Juniors under age 16) are chosen based on their performance in several invitational meets held across the country in January and February.
