DC-G boys edged by Newton

Dallas Center-Grimes was dealt a 5-3 loss by Newton on Tuesday in Dallas Center, just the second loss in the last nine games for the Mustangs.

Newton overtook DC-G with a three-run seventh inning. Jake Lewis was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored, and Tyler Pierson went 2-for-3.

In other action, a seven-run fourth inning powered the DC-G baseball team to a 10-4 win over Winterset on June 21. Junior Justin Carlyle went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and Jordan Kloewer had two RBIs with a 1-for-3 performance at the plate.

Cole Baker pitched five innings and picked up the win behind six strikeouts and one earned run. Jake Lewis went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and one run scored.

This came one day after the Mustangs split with Urbandale with an 18-8 win in the first game and a 4-2 loss in the second game. Carlyle had a monster game, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run, five RBIs and scoring two runs.

Colin Schroeder and Tyler Pierson scored three runs apiece and Sam Wadsworth, Lewis and Nick Schiller had two RBIs apiece. Wadsorth pitched five innings and struck out seven batters en route to picking up the win.

In the second game the Mustangs jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning but a three-run third inning propelled Urbandale to the win. Carlyle scored both of the Mustangs’ runs.

The Mustangs pulled out a close 1-0 win over Carlisle on June 19. Michael Foggia went 1-for-3 and scored the game’s only run and Lewis had seven strikeouts and gave up four hits in the shutout win.
