The Dallas Center-Grimes boys’ soccer team finished its season off in winning fashion on May 22 as they defeated Newton by a score of 3-0 in Grimes. The Mustangs (9-5) will now move on to the substate tournament on Thursday.

Ryan Exline, Logan Hart and Carson Kurth had goals in the game for the Mustangs. Exline also had one assist while Kullen Neyens had two.

Goalkeeper Colin Quass made five saves in 75 minutes before Zach Thompson came in for the final five minutes and made two saves as the Mustangs shut out Newton.

The Mustangs will play Harlan in the substate semifinals after a first-round bye. Harlan defeated Carroll 6-1 in the first round on Tuesday night.

The girls’ team at DC-G is on a 10-game winning streak, extending back to April 21. Over that span, the Fillies have only allowed three goals and have never given up more than one in any game while scoring 39 goals.

The Fillies played Waukee on Wednesday night, but the score wasn’t available before press time. The Fillies have one more regular season game remaining before the regional tournament.

The Fillies take on Nevada in the regular season finale in Grimes on Friday.
