DC-G off to strong start

The No. 1 Dallas Center-Grimes softball team, the defending state champions, picked up right where it left off last season and has started with three-straight wins. Their most recent win was a 13-0 blowout over Southeast Polk in Altoona.

Paige Lowary pitched all seven innings and struck out 14 batters and allowed only one hit in the game. The Fillies were up 7-0 going into the seventh inning when they scored six times.

Brooke Kramer led the Fillies with three runs scored while Allison O’Brien, Rachel Lowary, Lexi Rosa and Selena Nolte each scored two runs. Jackie Peyton, O’Brien, Rachel Lowary, Rosa and Kramer each had two RBIs as well.

After a game at Pella Christian on Wednesday, the Fillies’ next game is on Thursday against Pella in Dallas Center. They will play a double header beginning at 6 p.m.

Ballard

The Fillies softball team defeated Ballard at home by a score of 3-1 for its second win of the season.

Lowary, a senior this year, pitched all seven innings and struck out 11 batters while giving up just one hit and one run (zero earned runs). Jackie Payton went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Dani Heritage, Madison Carpenter and Kramer scored runs for the Fillies. Kramer also had a triple.
