Fillies make quick work of competition at DC-G Classic

Dallas Center-Grimes piled up 32 runs in a pair of lopsided victories at at windy DC-G Classic on June 28 in Dallas Center.

The Fillies blanked Urbandale 10-0, then battered Creston 22-1 for DC-G’s biggest margin of victory in at least seven season.

DC-G, which has yo-yoed from first to sixth to second in the Class 4A rankings, scored three runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings against Urbandale. Macey Wolfe delivered an RBI single to get the Fillies on the board in the third, then Tabitha Taylor and Dani Heritage drew bases-loaded walks.

Jackie Peyton ripped a solo shot into the teeth of the wind in the fourth inning, and after Brooke Kramer and Wolfe reached base by getting plunked, Taylor drove both of them in with her second hit of the game.

Wolfe and Peyton added RBIs in the fifth inning and Allison O’Brien scored on an illegal pitch. Eight players scored runs for DC-G.

It was more than enough for Rachel Lowary, who dazzled in the pitcher’s circle with nine strikeouts over six innings. She allowed just one hit and one walk.

The team piled up 20 hits against Creston in a game in which 15 Fillies crossed home plate. Lexi Rosa was 2-for-2 with four RBIs, Kramer was 3-for-3 with three knocked in, Peyton had two hits and three RBIs and Lowary was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Wolfe, Taylor, Heritage and Taylor Draisey all scored twice.

Emily Ellerman surrendered one run on one hit and four walks while striking out four in the three-inning victory.

Earlier in the week, DC-G added a 1-0 victory over Boone and a 16-0 win against A-D-M. Wolfe plated Kramer in the third inning for the winning run against the Toreadors on June 27, and Lowary struck out four, scattering five hits.

The Fillies got back-to-back seven-run innings in the third and fourth innings against A-D-M on June 26. Wolfe was 4-for-4 with a double, triple and three runs scored. Rachel Lowary was 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs. O’Brien had three hits and scored twice, while Heritage and Paige Lowary each went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Kramer had two hits and two RBIs.

Rachel Lowary struck out seven, allowing only one hit and one walk in four innings.

DC-G also grabbed its 30th win of the season by beating Carlisle 4-1 on Monday. O’Brien was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and both Peyton and Kramer added two-hit games. Paige Lowary struck out six, allowing one run on four hits and walking none.
