The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn baseball team got a big win on Monday against Ballard and avenged a 7-3 loss earlier in the year to the Bombers. The Tigers beat the Bombers in Adel on Monday by a score of 11-1 in six innings.
Shortstop Grant Goeden, a senior this year, was very effective running the bases against Ballard and has been very effective all season long. He only had one hit, but was walked three times, setting him up for two RBIs, three stolen bases and four runs scored.
Following the game against Ballard on Monday, Goeden was the Tigers’ leader in runs scored with 31 on the season, which also ranked him 14th in the state in Class 3A at the time. Also, following Monday’s game, Goeden was ranked first in Class 3A in triples with seven this year.
“He brings a lot to the table,” A-D-M coach Jason Book said of Goeden. “Just his overall athleticism. From being questionable coming into the season whether he was even going to be able to play the field or not to starting the second or third week of the season. It took him about a two weeks to find his bat and once he did he’s just been on fire ever since.”
The third baseman, Joe Sloss, also had a big game at the plate and around the bases for the Tigers. He went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored.
Ethan Herron went all six innings on the mound for the Tigers and gave up just one earned run on four hits and two walks while striking out five batters and is now 3-3 on the season with a 4.45 ERA.
The Tigers followed that up with an 11-0 win against Bondurant-Farrar. Sam Kornstad got the start on the mound and picked up the win while striking out four batters and allowing just one hit.
Robbie Sloss went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored. Goeden had an RBI, a stolen base, a double and two runs scored.
Herron and Jake Sloss scored two runs each.
After a game against Chariton on Wednesday, the Tigers play against Van Meter on Thursday night in Van Meter beginning at 7:30 p.m.
