IGHSAU releases regional softball pairings

The Fillies are aiming for the top.

Sixth-ranked Dallas Center-Grimes is on the hunt for its first state softball championship after a third-place finish in 2011 and a second-place finish last season.

The Fillies’ road to Fort Dodge begins July 13 at home against either Carroll or Creston in a Class 4A Region 8 semifinal. The winner will advance to the regional final, also in Dallas Center, on July 16. On the other end of the bracket is 13th-ranked Harlan, the team DC-G beat in the 2011 regional final.

In Class 5A, Waukee will also benefit from home-field advantage. The sixth-ranked Warriors open July 13 at home against either Urbandale or Des Moines Lincoln. The regional final, against either Des Moines North or Johnston, on July 16.

A-D-M received a tough first draw in Class 3A Region 8 and will open on July 9 at seventh-ranked Bondurant-Farrar. The winner advanced to a semifinal against either Saydel or Atlantic on July 12, also in Bondurant. The region championship will be July 15 at Saydel.

Both Van Meter and Woodward-Granger were inserted into the Class 2A Region 7 bracket. Woodward-Granger will face West Central Valley in the first round on July 9 in Woodward, with the winner advancing to face Des Moines Christian at its Urbandale campus on July 10. The semifinal round will be held July 12, also at Des Moines Christian.

Van Meter will host either Kuemper Catholic or Panorama on July 10, with the winner advancing to the semifinal on July 12 in Fort Dodge. The regional final is July 15 in Ogden.
