Mustangs and Fillies compete at LHC golf meet

The boys’ spring golf season is nearing it’s end and the Dallas Center-Grimes boys’ golf team competed at the Little Hawkeye Conference meet for the first time as a member of the conference on May 5 at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa. The Mustangs shot 341 as a team and took third place overall.

Pella, who won the conference meet, had four golfers on the All-Conference list, including the top three at the meet as they shot 307 as a team. Alex Jaspering of DC-G shot was included on the All-Conference list after shooting 80 at the conference meet as was Justin Carlyle, who shot 81 at the meet.

Drew Johnson shot 94 through 18 holes for the Mustangs while Blake Borchers shot 94 and David Ingle and Sam Nissly each shot 97. At the end of the meet, Grinnell got second place, Pella Christian got fourth, Norwalk got fifth, Oskaloosa got sixth and Knoxville got seventh.

The Mustangs followed up their third-place finish at the conference meet with a sixth-place finish at the Gilbert Invitational, which was played at Ames Golf and Country Club on May 10. The Mustangs shot 335 overall, which was just two strokes behind A-D-M, who shot 333 and placed fifth.

It was a tough day for the Dallas Center-Grimes girls’ golf team as they got sixth place at the Little Hawkeye Conference golf meet on May 5 in Oskaloosa. Overall, the Fillies shot 465, finishing one stroke behind Knoxville, who got fifth place at the meet and seven strokes ahead of Pella Christian, who took seventh place.

Michaela Fay led the way for the Fillies, shooting a 107 overall through 18 holes, with 58 strokes on the front nine and 49 strokes on the back nine. Laura Beeler shot 111 and Julia Austin shot 119 in the 18-hole round of golf.

Lizzy Rice shot 128, Megan Dillivan shot 130 and Makayla Vervaeck shot 139. Newton took first overall at the meet with Pella taking second, Norwalk taking third and Grinnell taking fourth to round out the field.
