The A-D-M volleyball team stands poised for another successful season.

The Tigers were on the brink of a state-tournament berth last season, but after a three-set loss to Red Oak in the regional finals, they were forced to settle for a 25-11 season and a share of second place in the Raccoon River Conference with a 6-2 record.

It was their second season in a row of 20 or more wins after winning just eight matches in the 2011 season. “We will be a scrappy, athletic squad,” said coach Mary Beth Scott, who is in her seventh year as coach. “They are all excited to work hard and try to finish it.”

The team returns a ton of talent, including senior outside hitters Allison Gottschalk and Torrie Hook. Gottschalk was a first-team all-conference and third-team all-state selection last year after amassing 298 kills, with a .295 efficiency and an average of 3.1 per set. Hook, a second-team all-conference pick, racked up 241, averaging 2.6 per set.

Also back are senior Haley Schepers, who was third on the team with 185 kills, and senior libero Maddie Powers, who scooped up a team-best 365 digs.

Setters Marissa Felt and Brennan Hook are also back, as well as outside hitter Kari Dufoe. Felt, with 368 assists, and Hook, with 350, ranked sixth and seventh in the conference last season, while Dufoe collected 67 kills.

The service game figures to be another strong point for the Tigers again this season. They served at an 89.7 success rate last year and amassed a conference-best 286 aces, 31 more than Carroll. Six players had 20 or more aces, and four of those return this season, including Hook (41), Felt (41), Powers (35), and Schepers (32).

Scott pointed to other possible contributors to this year’s team, including Abby Merschman, Kenzi Sutton, Maddie Mikkelsen, Tania Telford and Sydney Bertman.
