Nevada snapped A-D-M’s seven-game winning streak by eking out a 5-4 win at the Tigers’ tournament in Adel on June 22.

The Cubs scored four runs in the final two innings, including a three-run seventh to rally for the victory. Logan Essy was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Kyle Herrick and Joe Sloss each scored twice.

A-D-M won its first game of the day against Des Moines Christian, 5-4, in a game that went to extra innings after a 45-minute rain delay. Jackson VerWoert drove in two runs and also pitched two scoreless innings for the victory.

VerWoert lifted a bloop single in the eighth inning that landed behind second base, driving in Joe Sloss, who had stolen third base. In the second inning, VerWoert plated a run with a perfectly placed safety squeeze.

A-D-M took a 2-0 lead in the second. Herrick scored on a wild pitch, and Ethan Herron scored before the Lions recorded the third out in a rundown.

Herron pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits and two walks while striking out three.

A-D-M also added wins over Bondurant-Farrar, Pella Christian and Boone in recent action. Essy was 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the 8-5 win at Boone on June 21. Dylan Nelson was 3-for-4, Grant Goeden homered and both he and Jordan Grove were 2-for-4. Chase Eddie pitched six innings, striking out three for the victory.

The Tigers scored four runs in the first and coasted to a 6-1 victory against Pella Chrsitian on June 20. Essy was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while both Sam Kornstad and Jaxon Sloan drove in two runs. Kornstad struck out seven over six innings, and VerWoert pitched a scoreless seventh.

The Tigers’ 5-3 win at Boone on June 19 was punctuated by Nelson, who struck out six in the comple-game victory. Essy drove in two runs.

A-D-M holds a 9-1 conference record, good for first in the Raccoon River Conference through Monday.
